iBorn in 1982, Maurice Tan is a self-taught artist living and working in Toronto.  With acrylic paint, Maurice creates bold and colorful abstract, still life, and portrait paintings.

Most of his inspiration comes from nature and city life.  Many of Maurice's paintings capture the change in seasons, as well as the different combination of colors that accompany each season.

His paintings depicting city life portray busy settings around the downtown area of Toronto at night.  With a combination of vibrant colors and texture, Maurice's work captures the movement and vibrant lights of the city.

A unique textured and layering presentation can be found in many of Maurice's artwork.  Layers of paint are placed on the canvas to create texture in his work.  The main colors are painted last while leaving many underlying textures and colors exposed to enhance the depth of the painting.  Much effort is dedicated to creating many styles of texture in order to bring out the expression of each painting.

Maurice's work can be found in several galleries around Toronto, as well as in private collections in Canada, India, U.S. and the U.K.
